Citing Resources Using the Turabian/Chicago Style

  • Citing Sources
Citing Resources Using the Turabian/Chicago Style

Turabian, a simplified form taken from the Chicago Manual of Style, can be used for papers, theses, and dissertations in the humanities, social, or natural sciences. Included below are citation examples for the most commonly used types of information resources--please refer to the style manual for further or more specific information.

A manual for writers of term papers, theses, and dissertations / Kate L.Turabian.
A copy of this can be found at the following libraries in their Reference Collections (Call # LB2369 .T8 1996 ): Wilson, Magrath, Veterinary Medicine, Ent/Fish/Wild, BioMedical, Walter Science/Engineering, Music, Wilson Business, and Law.

The simplest type of bibliography for a paper using this style is an alphabetical list. Here are some characteristics:

    • Start references on a new page--It can be titled References, Works Cited, Literature Cited, or something of this nature
    • Single space within the citation, double space between entries
    • Use a hanging indent (first line flush with left margin, following lines are indented 5 spaces)
    • Arrange list alphabetically by author's last name
