Finding Book Reviews

Searching indexes to find a review
For an online index, like the Academic Search Premier, you simply
enter the significant words or portion of the title (e.g. cold mountain) and
the word reviews.

For a print index, like Book Review Index, you need to look up
the author's name in the volume of the index that contains entries for the year
your book was published. To be complete, you should also try looking for reviews
published one to four years after the book was published, as sometimes there
is a delay between the publication of a book and when it gets reviewed.
Both online and print indexes will provide you with a book review citation,
which will tell you where and when the book review was published. A book review
citation will look something like this:
Cold Mountain. (book reviews) James Gardner. National Review
Dec 31, 1997 v49 n25 p54(2)
This citation tells you that the review of Cold Mountain was written
by James Gardner and published in the periodical National Review on
December 31, 1997.
The last step is to find out if the University of Minnesota subscribes to the
National Review for that date. To do this, you will need to check MNCAT
for the periodical title, National Review.
