         Locating, Evaluating, and Using Statistics

Statistics are numeric descriptions of events and activities that can be represented as a table of numbers, a graph, a picture, or a map. Statistics are rarely an end in themselves. In order to be informative, statistics require explanation.

This lesson will help you identify and evaluate sources for statistics so you can use statistical information accurately in the context of your research projects. The goal of this lesson is to help you understand the limits of what statistics can tell us, and to help you recognize quality and bias in statistical information.
