    Adding References into RefWorks

There are several ways to add references (citations) into RefWorks. You can manually add references of any type into RefWorks, add MNCAT references into RefWorks, or you can add references from many online library databases. Below, there are a few basic ways of getting references into RefWorks. More advanced methods are available in the section: Writing Your Bibliography with RefWorks: Advanced.

    • Manually Creating a New Reference of Any Type

      1. Select New Reference.
      2. From the drop-down In Folders menu, select your folder.
      3. From the drop-down Ref Types menu, choose the appropriate publication type.
      4. Enter the information from your reference in the fields.
      5. Select Save.

    • Adding References from MNCAT using RefWorks' Search Feature
This method works better for specific (exact) titles.

      1. Select Search Online Database in the left navigation bar.
      2. Find University of Minnesota, MNCAT Catalog in the first drop-down menu.
      3. Type in your search.
      4. If you like, you may organize your results into your folders.
